Andrew ‘Jnr Boy’ Jones – Lone Star Guitarman – JSP5807

Jefferson magazine – Sweden March 2016

Andrew ‘Jnr Boy’ Jones on JSP DVD – Lone Star Guitarman, is clearly a better guitarist than he is a singer. His roots are in the Texas Dallas / Fort Worth blues style and reminiscent of Freddie King.

In fact he started his career with Freddie King later moving on to work with as bandleader with Johnny Taylor, Bobby Patterson, Katie Webster and Charlie Musselwhite. The influence of Freddie King is clear but he has developed his own smooth style of guitar playing which shows great intensity and emotion. Jones toured England in 1998 and was backed by a competent British band with one of the gigs being filmed and released here in the JSP/Blues Archive DVD series.

Perhaps it was the big moment of filming but his performance slightly disappoints although he is clearly a very talented guitarist.

As with other DVDs in this series, there is an interview bonus track but we would like to have seen more film of his performance as Andrew ‘Jnr Boy’ Jones is well worth watching.
